After a storm rolls through, a walk around your mobile or manufactured home can save you thousands down the road. These homes sit closer to the ground and have different roofing and skirting systems than site-built houses, so storm damage shows up in different places.

Here's where to look first:

• Roof and flashing. Check for lifted or missing shingles, dented vents, and soft spots where water could be pooling.
• Skirting. High winds can crack or knock loose the panels around the base of your home, opening a path for rain and pests to get underneath.
• Windows and doors. Look for new gaps, cracked seals, or water stains on the frames.
• Underneath the home. If you can safely check your crawlspace, look for standing water or fresh mud lines on the vapor barrier.
• Gutters and downspouts. Clogged or bent gutters send water straight toward your foundation instead of away from it.
